Scotophaeus blackwalli is a large, darkly coloured spider with a somewhat handsome appearance. It is usually encountered inside houses. Nationally, the species is reasonably common in England and Wales but scarce in Scotland. The Spider Recording Scheme holds only two records for Scotophaeus blackwalli, from 1959 and 1969. However there are three ERCCIS records from houses in Redruth, Camborne and Angarrack made in the 1990s. In the ERCCIS database, there is the following note against the entry for Camborne.
'This specimen was captured in a house at Camborne and taken to [a] house in Truro where it was released and was last seen terrorising other occupants of the airing cupboard.'
