The name Pardosa saltans is a recent addition to the British list. Analysis of video film of the sexual display of male Pardosa by Topfer-Hofmmann et al. (2000) revealed that Pardosa 'lugubris' was in fact several species, the males of which displayed in different ways to the females. Careful examination of the genitalia revealed slight morphological differences and all British Pardosa 'lugubris' have turned out to be different from the true Pardosa lugubris. They were given the new name Pardosa saltans. Pardosa saltans is widespread and fairly common in Britain. In Cornwall there are only a few records, the most recent being from woodland in the extreme east of the County.
