Ostearius melanopygius is widespread in England and has been found in a variety of habitats including rubbish tips and gardens, sometimes indoors. However, this species has only been recorded twice from Cornwall. Once from Portscatho in 1972 and more recently, in 2004, in some numbers from a manure heap near Torpoint. For a money spider, it is quite distinctive with a pink abdomen tipped with black.
