Monocephalus castaneipes is widely distributed in Britain but is not particularly common. In the south, it is usually found living in moss at the base of tree trunks. During the early 1980s, it was found on several occasions at Rosemanowas Quarry at Longdowns. The only other records are from the vicinity of the Tresillian River in March 1993 and Tremmadock in October 2002.
