Oonops domesticus is very similar in appearance to the closely-related Oonops pulcher. Both species are tiny spiders. However Oonops domesticus is found almost exclusively inside houses whereas Oonops pulcher is usually found out of doors in bird nests, under stones and under tree bark. Although there are very few records for Oonops domesticus in Cornwall, it must be massively under-recorded. I found the specimen shown in the photographs on the wall of a bathroom in a flat in Falmouth in January 2005. It also turned up in the Headland Hotel, Newquay in May 2005.
The differences between the two species are quite subtle and specimens must be carefully checked.
