Scytodes thoracica (sometimes known as the 'Spitting Spider') is found exclusively inside buildings. It feeds by squirting two jets of sticky fluid at its prey from glands that open on the front of the head. It does not produce a web. The only ERCCIS record is from St. Ives in 1998. I was recently (June 2005) sent a clear photograph of a specimen of this species seen on a wall of a house in St. Mary's, Isles of Scilly (the red dot). However, Scytodes thoracica is probably common in Cornwall. It should be looked for in houses and other buildings. The most promising habitat is bathroom walls in the early hours of the morning!
