Although there are a few scattered records for Xenylla brevicauda, all the specimens I have examined in the NHML collection do not fit the description of Fjellberg (1998), or are in too poor a condition to reliably identify. All lack the numerous knobbed tenant setae on the inner side of the tibiotarsus. Indeed some of the specimens are clearly Xenylla grisea, not Xenylla brevicauda which Fjellberg (1998) describes as a 'mainly boreal' species. Thus the presence of Xenylla brevicauda in UK/Eire needs to be confirmed.
