Ceratophysella 'armata' has been widely recorded in the past. However, none of the records shown on the map should be considered as definite records. All the specimens of 'Ceratophysella armata' which I have examined from the NHML collection are other species (mostly Ceratophysella denticulata).
     The
Ceratophysella 'armata-group' contains species with setae p1>p2 on abd4. Within this group, Ceratophysella scotica has the empodium longer than the claw, Ceratophysella granulata has the dorsal thorax and abdomen with fields of enlarged granules, and Ceratophysella bengtssoni has very small anal spines. Babenko et al. (1994) describe Ceratophysella armata as having a field of about 40 small clavate setae on the dorsal side of ant4; none of the specimens I have seen fit this description. However, it is possible that the true Ceratophysella armata could occur here.
