Pseudanurophorus alticolus is an intriguing species. The only specimens known from UK/Eire were collected by Bagnall from the summit of Slieve Donard (about 650 metres), Co. Down in August 1943. There are three paratypes in the NHML slide collection. Pseudanurophorus alticolus is a senior synonym of Pseudanurophorus inoculatus Bodvarsson, 1957 (Fjellberg personal communication). It may also be the same species as Jesenikia filiformis Rusek, 1997.
     Pseudanurophorus alticolus is a tiny (0.5 mm), white, blind species that does not possess a furca and appears to be restricted to boggy upland areas. It is likely to be present in similar habitats throughout.
