Folsomia fimetarioides is the only species of Folsomia recorded from Britain and Ireland with three teeth on the mucro (all the other Folsomia have two teeth on the mucro). It is white with 0+0 ocelli and reaches a maximum length of 1.3 mm. However according to Potapov (2001), records of Folsomia fimetarioides from northern and central Europe are mostly from eastern areas. The only specimen of Folsomia 'fimetarioides' in the NHML collection was collected from 'Bristol' in 1925. Although in poor condition, it is possible to discern that it is blind and has at least three teeth on the mucro. However it has five abdominal segments, and 1+1 stout apical setae on the ventral (anterior) side of the manubrium. It is definitely not Folsomia fimetarioides. Misha Potapov has examined this specimen and agrees with my conclusion that it is probably Cryptopygus garretti.
     The presence of
Folsomia fimetarioides in Britain and Ireland needs to be verified but seems unlikely.
